How the Evaluation Process Works

The Oscia Theatre Awards uses a structured, independent, and confidential evaluation process designed to recognize artistic excellence as it is experienced in live performance.

01 — Production Materials

After acceptance, each participating production submits a complete Production Roster and Category Classification Form. This identifies the artists and creative work eligible for consideration. It is an administrative record—not a “For Your Consideration” campaign.

02 — Fellows Are Assigned

Oscia assigns five to seven qualified Fellows to each participating production. A minimum of five completed independent evaluations is required for valid consideration.

03 — Fellows Attend the Production

Fellows attend the production as audience members and experience the complete, or substantially complete, performance. They may attend on different dates, and their identities ordinarily remain confidential.

04 — Independent Evaluation

Each Fellow evaluates only the work personally witnessed, using Oscia’s standardized, category-specific rubric. Fellows may not discuss the production, compare opinions, or review one another’s scores before submitting their evaluations.

05 — Evaluations Are Submitted

Fellows submit their completed evaluations through Oscia’s official digital system within 72 hours of attending the production. Once submitted, an evaluation becomes part of the official record and may only be corrected through an authorized integrity review.

06 — Confidential Tabulation

Every valid evaluation carries equal weight. Scores are securely tabulated according to the governing standards of the Oscia Theatre Awards. Individual scores, written comments, rankings, and evaluation records remain confidential and are not released to participating productions or the public.

07 — Recognition Is Determined

Nominees and winners are determined through the completed evaluations and Oscia’s governing standards. There is no public voting, popularity contest, or promotional campaigning. Winners remain confidential until they are announced at the Oscia Theatre Awards ceremony.

Integrity Safeguards

All Fellows must disclose potential conflicts of interest and may be reassigned when necessary. Oscia’s review procedures safeguard fairness, confidentiality, and accurate tabulation without replacing a Fellow’s independent artistic judgment or selecting nominees and winners.

Independent evaluation. Confidential review. Recognition earned through the work.
