The Oscia Theatre Awards Are Coming to Atlanta on August 30, 2027
Atlanta has always been a city where culture gets made. It is where music changes direction, where film and television productions come to life, and where Black creativity, business, and community leadership meet on a national stage. Now Atlanta's theatre community is getting a celebration built for it.
On Monday, August 30, 2027, the Oscia Theatre Awards will make their debut in Atlanta. It is the first city in a national rollout that continues in Los Angeles in 2028.
The evening is being designed as a signature cultural event. Expect a red carpet, black-tie and long-gown elegance, standout performances, and a room full of artists, producers, community leaders, sponsors, and theatre lovers.
An Awards Program Built on Integrity
The Oscia Theatre Awards were created to honor artists and productions with integrity, dignity, and professional excellence. The goal is to celebrate the work fairly, whether it is staged in a major house or an intimate independent venue.
How the awards work:
Theatre companies, production companies, and independent producers register eligible productions staged live for the public during the Atlanta awards season.
Atlanta will have its own Oscia Th
eater Council, made up of trained Fellows who attend performances in person.
A panel of five to seven Fellows attends a public performance of each registered production.
Each Fellow scores the work independently against established criteria and submits a secure digital ballot within 72 hours.
Nominees and recipients are announced publicly. Individual scores and internal evaluation records stay confidential.
The awards cover performance, creative, design, technical, and production categories. Oscia believes every part of a production matters, from the actor at center stage to the designer, technician, and crew member who make the moment possible.
Why This Matters
Many Atlanta artists do extraordinary work that never gets the recognition it deserves. The Oscia Theatre Awards exist to change that. As the Oscia Declaration puts it: "We declare that excellence should never go unnoticed."
